CAPACITY BUILDING

Literacy in a Digital World

Critical Skills :  What Things Are About

Apart from being digitally literate, we need the ability to stand critically towards all kinds of messages we receive from the environment. We need to master the seven skills of media literacy: analysis, evaluation, grouping, induction, deduction, synthesis, and abstracting. Critical literacy refers to the process of becoming aware of one's experience relative to power relations, often realized through reading and writing.

Functional Skills :  How to Do Things

Our functionality in the rapidly advancing digital environment, our ability to make informed decisions and be actively engaged in learning and communicating activities depends both on technical skills (digital capacities, written and oral communication) and the use of the available technological means. When the level of knowledge and skills acquired during school and everyday life are not enough, we may become dysfunctional and unable to participate.
