The functionality and participation of an individual, but also the ability to make informed decisions, depends both on the skill in written and oral communication and in the use of the available relevant technological means; thus digital literacy is a prerequisite.


Moreover, digital skills relate to the level of knowledge and competences acquired (or not) during school and interaction with everyday life tasks, but also the ability to stand critically towards all kinds of messages we receives from the environment.


In the modern world, the technological development and the spread of digital media undoubtedly make more complex and demanding the environment in which people live and act - both media literate and illiterate. Functional illiteracy is the inability of a person to understand complex discourse despite adequate school education, age, language skills, basic reading skills and IQ - as long as such weaknesses cannot be fully explained by any sensory, cognitive, neurological or mental deficits.


In order for all ages to be able to participate in a digital world, it is necessary to develop the ability of "lifelong learning". This way we can redress what the school does not offer, in the tightly defined amount of knowledge of current curricula, provided in a fragmentary way and without an organic synthesis, cut off from the needs and practices of contemporary life.
